Pre-launch · built in Tirupur, India

The restaurant OS that shows its working.

Sorto is a restaurant operating system for India. Billing, stock, cash and analytics share one set of books on your shop PC, and every figure says which dates it covers.

Pre-launch. Built by the people who run Cafe Mellow in Tirupur; our own restaurant is the first shop on Sorto.

Why it matters

Same week. Two readings. Only one is true.

Two days were never loaded. Software that counts them as ₹0 reports a bad week. Switch the reading and watch what happens to the number.

Looks like a bad week. It was not: two days simply were never loaded.

Last week: ₹37,100 a day. All figures are samples.

What we do differently

Four things, each one real in the product.

Each card says whether it works today or is still being built. Nothing here is a plan dressed as a feature.

1–7 Oct5/7 days
unknown

Every figure shows its dates

Insights names the date range behind each number. A day with no data is shown as unknown, never as zero.

Books you add to, never edit

A sale or a correction is a new entry that points at the old one. Change history and it shows.

A day-end count that starts empty

Nobody pre-fills it. Card and UPI totals are checked against the machine's own slip.

Problems we built for

What goes wrong in a restaurant's numbers, and what Sorto does about it.

Problem

“Sales dropped” — because three days were never loaded.

A report that treats a missing day as a zero-sales day invents a decline.

How Sorto handles it

Insights marks every day as full, closed, gap or not loaded. Averages divide by days with data, and it will not compare two periods with unequal coverage.

Today · Insights
Problem

The cash at close never matches, and nobody can say why.

A pre-filled or lump-sum count always “matches”, and mistakes get edited away.

How Sorto handles it

The count starts empty and is entered note by note. A difference needs a reason and a PIN. Fixes are new entries, and card and UPI totals are checked against the slip.

Problem

Too much waits in your head.

An unmatched card payment, an advance nobody wrote down, a supplier bill due on Friday.

How Sorto handles it

Pending lists what waits, worked out from the books, and each item is answered where it sits. Reminders follow levels and quiet hours.

Can you believe the clever dashboard?

A tool can state a confident number it never looked up, or give right numbers with the wrong story.

How Sorto handles it

Insights has to look your data up before it answers, shows what it looked up, and checks “trade fell” claims against your own trend.

Today means built and tested, running in trials. Sorto is pre-launch: no shop bills on it yet.

How Sorto is built

Built with Claude, and its AI is moving to Claude.

Two separate facts, kept separate: how the software is written today, and where the AI inside it is going.

Built with Claude

Claude Code writes Sorto's software. Every change has to pass the project's own tests before it is saved, and the checks described on this site run against what it writes.

Today

Sorto's AI is moving to Claude

The Insights assistant and future AI features are planned on Anthropic's Claude. The rule stays the same: look your data up first, and show what was looked up.

Planned
Security & trust

Books that can't be quietly edited.

Financial facts are append-only and hash-chained. A correction is a new entry that points at the old one; the history stays. If an old entry is changed, the chain breaks and the check says so.

The entries above are an illustration, not real data.
