Complaining to us is free.
What you can complain about
- How this website collected or used your personal data.
- A request to see, correct or delete your data that we did not handle properly.
- How we handled personal data where we act for a shop that uses Sorto.
If your complaint is about a shop, for example a café that billed you and kept your phone number, please contact that shop first. The shop decides how its customers’ data is used and is responsible for it. We will help the shop answer you.
What to include
Please give us enough to find your data and understand the problem:
- your name;
- how to reach you (email, or phone if you prefer);
- the email address or phone number we would know you by;
- what happened, and roughly when;
- where it happened (this website, an email from us, or a shop using Sorto, with the shop’s name);
- what you would like us to do.
We may ask you to confirm it is you before we share or change any data. We will not ask for more than we need to do that.
How fast we reply
- We confirm we got your complaint within 2 working days.
- We resolve it within one month of receiving it. If we need more information from you, we will ask straight away.
Indian rules in force today say a complaint like this must be resolved within one month. The newer data protection rules allow up to 90 days. We keep to the shorter time.
Our reply will say what we found, what we did, and the name of the person who handled it.
If you are not satisfied
You can complain to the Data Protection Board of India, the official body set up under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The law asks you to use our process first, so please write to us before going to the Board.
How to reach the Board: see the Board’s official website once it opens for complaints from the public; we will add the link here when it is published
Please be fair
Please make sure the details in your complaint are true. The law expects complaints to be genuine.
